The Chevrolet Cruze is one of the biggest successes for GM products in recent memory. The Cruze is the epitome of the phrase, “less is more”. It is a small car with impressive space, especially in the 15.4 cubic foot trunk. With great fuel economy, reliable build, and excellent safety features, the Cruze is the perfect car for a new driver or a new family. It’s now available at Joe Van Horn Chevrolet—located just north of Milwaukee on Highway 57.

There are four models that you can select. (See Local Inventory here)

The first model is the base model (Cruze LS). The LS comes standard with 16-inch steel wheels, Onstar, a 6-speaker stereo system with a CD/MP3 player, XM Satellite Radio, and an auxiliary audio jack. If you choose the Connectivity package, you will also get Bluetooth, a USB port, and steering wheel audio controls. The LS is powered by a 1.8L I-4 engine that makes 136HP and 123-pounds feet of torque. It is mated to a six-speed manual transmission with an option for the six-speed automatic. The fuel economy for the LS reads in at 25-city/36 hwy, and 29 mpg combined for the manual and 22/35/27mpg for the automatic. These are very impressive numbers for a car that holds five adults.

The second model you can look at is the Cruze Eco. The Cruze Eco is very similarly equipped to the LS, except the Eco is all about saving gas. To do this and create less pollution, the Eco comes with a more aerodynamic body, lightweight alloy wheels, low-rolling resistance tires, and a smaller fuel tank. This all adds up to a 28/42/33mpg rating with the manual transmission and 26/39/31 with the automatic.

The third model is the LT and is divided into two subsets; the 1LT and the 2LT. The 1LT includes the Connectivity package and comes standard with a 1.4L I-4 turbo-charged engine, cruise, power mirrors, and leather wrapped steering wheel. The 2LT keeps all this and adds 16-inch alloy wheels, remote start, sport-tuned suspension, four wheel disc brakes, leather, heated front seats, and a six-way power driver’s seat. The manual transmission is still standard with the automatic as an option.

The top of the line LTZ model takes everything in the 2LT and piles on. The LTZ adds 18-inch alloy wheels, rear parking radar, keyless ignition and entry, automatic climate control, premium interior trim, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The automatic transmission now comes standard.

Safety-wise, all trim levels come standard with stability control, ABS brakes, full-length side curtain airbags, front knee airbags, front impact, and rear side impact airbags. In government crash testing, the Cruze earned a top five-star rating for frontal impact, side impact, and overall safety. The IIHS tested the Cruze and gave it the top score of “Good” in both frontal-offset and side impact testing.
Of all the redesigns that Chevrolet has done, going from the Cobalt to the Cruze has to be one of the best. The fuel economy is spectacular and gets even better if you are willing to learn on one of the smoothest manual transmissions in the business. You’ll get a friendly ride, excellent space, and a great price that you can’t pass up. Come in to Joe Van Horn Chevrolet to test-drive a car that will surprise you!!
