When Habitat for Humanity Lakeside approached Van Horn Automotive Group for a new truck to haul their trailers and supplies, it was an easy decision to help out. Habitat for Humanity is a global, nonprofit housing organization, dedicated to developing communities through the construction and rehabilitation of homes for families in need. Habitat for Humanity Lakeside hauls two trailers almost daily – a 16 foot and a 20-foot trailer. Their previous vehicle, a 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500, did not have the full capacity to haul both of those trailers when they were fully loaded. Habit for Humanity Lakeside needed a spacious, reliable, and powerful vehicle to continue their mission of benefiting the community. Teresa Van Horn, co-CEO of the Van Horn Automotive Group Group said, “The Van Horn Gives program is designed to strengthen our communities; and when we have the opportunity to partner with an organization that literally builds a better community, it’s always satisfying to help out.”

Van Horn was extremely proud to donate a 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500 to enable Habitat for Humanity to continue their admirable duties. When asked about the partnership between Van Horn and Habitat for Humanity, Sarah Beckman, an Executive Director at Habitat for Humanity Lakeside, said “Family-owned companies like Van Horn help this community, and families inside the community, thrive. We are honored to include them as part of our Habitat family as we now having the towing capacity to reliably and safely transport materials to new construction and repair sites throughout Sheboygan County. Habitat for Humanity’s mission is all about bringing people together to build homes, communities, and home and we are proud to include a family-owned company like Van Horn in our mission. The entire Van Horn team was wonderful to work with!” Van Horn is excited to collaborate with local businesses and people to help the community to grow even stronger.

During 2019, Habitat for Humanity Lakeside had a very prosperous year. They were able to sell three homes to low-to-moderate income families through their Home Buyer Program, started working on repairing a home through their Home Repair Program, and assisted 9 homeowners with repair work through their Rock the Block Program. Now that the winter season has hit, they are currently on a pause until the upcoming Spring 2020 when they are beginning work on new exciting projects. They are looking to sell two homes through their Home Buyer Program, finance home repair loans for 5-7 homeowners through their county-wide Home Repair Program and complete 15-20 home repair projects through their Rock the Block Program. They are in the process of starting their new 5-year plan which includes the initiative to help more individuals and families. Over the course of 5 years, they are looking to serve 600 individuals through their Home Buyer (20 homes), Home Repair (55 repairs) and Rock the Block (200 projects) Programs.
